Dr. Henkin will also place protective healing caps over the posts before sending you home to recover.
Dental Implant Osseointegration & Abutment
Arguably the most important part of the entire dental implant process, osseointegration refers to the fusion that occurs between your jawbone tissue and your implant posts. Since they’re made from biocompatible materials, they can safely fuse with your jaw to form a permanent bond that’s almost identical to a natural tooth root. However, this fusion does take 3 to 6 months under normal circumstances, and you’ll have to take great care of your mouth to ensure it happens without issue. Afterwards, you can return to receive your abutments, which are small appliances that connect your restoration to the top of your implant posts when it’s time.
